As I introduced in the previous posting, Mali is one of the countries that support the DPCW (Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War) at the national level. Do you know why is this country particularly involved in achieving world peace? Mali is a country that suffers from conflicts in Africa. It’s composed of nine regions, and problems such as terrorism, rebellion, ethnic conflicts, slavery, etc., brought many casualties throughout the country. Realizing this, HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light) and experts and leaders from various fields launched the “We Are One (WAO)” project in 2021, Mar.

HWPL is a global peace NGO that was established by Chairman Lee Man Hee, who is a veteran who survived the Korean War. Experiencing the cruelty of the war, Chairman Lee decided to inherit peace to future generations, that way, youths wouldn’t be sacrificed in wars. While the organization approaches different countries with localized ways to achieve peace, it runs major projects to build peace in the world. One of their major peacebuilding projects is enacting a new international peace law.

The DPCW mentioned above is the draft of the new international law. It was created by the HWPL International Peace Law Committee, which was formed with 21 law experts around the world. The document was announced on 14th Mar. 2017. To legislate this declaration to a new international law, it must be submitted to the UN for approval. Before that, gaining support from the member countries of the UN is necessary. HWPL has been gathering support from many countries in 31 rounds of HWPL’s peace tours. Mali is one of the countries that support the DPCW at the national level.

HWPL’s We Are One project is also supported by the Malian government. The project was formed in Mar. 2021 and recruited experts from various fields to find solutions to resolve the situation of the country. From Mar. 2023 to Jan. 2024, cities of the regions of Mali signed MOUs with HWPL (Signed cities are Gao, Yorosso, Masina, Mopti, and Segou).

At WAO’s first meeting, the experts and leaders from different fields gathered to discuss which aspect they should focus on to resolve the problem. Important figures with various backgrounds such as the mayor of the city of Yorosso, the deputy governor of the city of Segou, the police chief, ethnic leaders, and religious leaders, participated. The participants agreed that they must focus on resolving the problem called ‘Ignorance of Ethic Roots and Traditions’.

Mr. Abdoulaye Goita, the mayor of the city of Yorosso, highlighted, “HWPL’s WAO project is special in special in the aspect of how we approach to the minds of people. (…) This is something that everyone in our city of Yorosso must collaborate on for peace.”

The first Dialogue in the city of Yorosso is scheduled to take place in the second week of February at the city hall, and the progress meetings will take place every two months.
