Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (*HWPL) is a global peace NGO that strives to achieve peace through 10 articles and 38 clauses of the DPCW (Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War; a new international peace law that HWPL will submit to the UN). HWPL runs various projects to build peace in different approaches. One of them is to teach peace to future generations.

*HWPL: Short for Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light. It’s a global peace NGO that was established by a veteran, Chairman Lee Man Hee. He survived the Korean War as a frontline soldier. Experiencing the cruelty of the war, he decided to save all youths from fighting on the battlefields by ceasing and preventing all wars. HWPL actively working since its establishment in various ways – achieving peace through building religious peace, teaching peace to future generations, spreading the culture of peace, processing to enact the stricter international peace law (DPCW), etc.

Therefore, the event held by UNESCO on the International Day of Education was an utterly suitable place to talk about peace education. HWPL had the honor to give a speech at the event.

On 24th Jan. 2024, the event took place at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris to commemorate World Education Day. Under the theme, “International Day of Education, Education Reinvented: Teachers at the heart of transformation for the generation affected by COVID-19.” A total of 542 people from 44 countries participated in the event both in-person and online.

Marion Amoussou, representative of HWPL in Côte d’Ivoire, emphasized the importance of HWPL’s peace education program focusing on diversity, cooperation, order, empathy, forgiveness, gratitude, and courage. She highlighted HWPL’s efforts in Africa, creating partnerships with 239 schools and universities, as well as Memoranda of Agreement with 13 countries including Comoros, Burkina Faso, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

One of the attending educators, Marie Martinat from the Bilingual International School of Paris, expressed, “I’m proud to have been able to contribute to this conversation and to be part of this global movement to reinvent education. Together, we are the change, and we can truly transform the world through education. In addition to its essential role in social transformation, education plays a crucial role in promoting positive peace. Thank you to HWPL and UNESCO for offering me this unique opportunity to share my vision of education reinvented and its essential role in building a more harmonious, peaceful, and balanced world. Together, we can change the world, one education at a time.”

Awuve Koffi Afetogbo Azilan, First Counsellor of Permanent Delegation of Togo to UNESCO, and a representative of the host country expressed satisfaction with the event and a desire for continued collaboration with HWPL to support the implementation of peace education in Togo.
