The 8th Anniversary of HWPL Peace Day in Mindanao, Philippines, was celebrated on Jan. 24, 2022.

Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) is a civic group. The citizens who hope world peace to come true gathered this organization to achieve peace. For many years, the chairman of HWPL had been visiting many continents to gather agreements to reinforce international law to bring peace to the world and stop all wars.

Among the countries he visited, Mindanao has a deep relationship with HWPL. Mindanao is an island where there had been conflicts between two religions for 40 years and the conflicts cause many deaths. Man Hee Lee, Chairman of HWPL, risked his life to visit and moderate the conflict between these two, 2014. He requested the local leaders sign the peace agreement. Guided by Chairman Lee, the governor of Maguindanao (Esmael Mangudadatu) and Archbishop (Fernando Capalla) signed the agreement in a peaceful mood. After this, Maguindanao and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) declared Jan. 24 as “HWPL Peace Day”. They commemorate this day to reassure international cooperation and local partnership for peacebuilding in Mindanao.

Back in 2014, two local leaders signed the Mindanao Peace Agreement with the guidance of the Chairman of HWPL.

Due to the pandemic, the 8th-anniversary event was held online under the theme of “Law of Peace in Heaven and Earth”, to bring harmony among religions and encourage public support to establish international law for peace, the DPCW (the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War).

Among the key figures who sent congratulatory messages, Ronald Adamat, Commissioner of Commission on Higher Education (CHED), said that CHED urged President Roderigo Duterte to appoint HWPL Peace Day as the Philippines’ National Holiday. He added that he’ll encourage all instrumentalities and agencies of government including the private sector to celebrate peace with peace activities, events, and ceremonies. He said this day will be celebrated and observed in the educational sector.
